No Shoes Reefs is a grass roots project for Kenny Chesney. One sunny day in Jacksonville, Florida, it literally came to life. Kenny and his friends from Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) floated over two concrete structures that had been sunk only 18 months prior. As their boat floated over the location, its fish finders went crazy and their depth finders turned bright red showing the St Johns River now had two new living reefs.
Thrilled by the outcome, Kenny and Pat Murray, President of CCA, proclaimed these as the first “No Shoes Reefs.” From that afternoon, an initiative was born.
Today, No Shoes Reefs continues to help ocean conservation groups create awareness, raise money and connect to each other. Our newest partner, The Reef Ball Foundation is forging alliances, raising awareness and funds through sales of exclusive products and becoming part of a dynamic alliance dedicated to ensuring the future of our nation’s seas.
Drawing on the power of Chesney’s No Shoes Nation, well over a few million strong, No Shoes Reefs continues looking for ways to help keep the oceans as well as any/all waterways healthy for generations to come. An evolving group of individuals, brands, scientists, conservationists, and people who want to leave the world a better place, No Shoes Reefs demonstrates the East Tennessean’s ongoing commitment to creating an ocean that will be increasingly healthy and vital for everyone to enjoy one reef at time.
